Pricing Plan FAQs

Heating Oil & Propane Pricing Plan FAQs

Q: What pricing plans are available?

A: We understand that every household has unique budgeting needs, which is why we offer three different heating fuel pricing plans for you to choose from.

    • Budget Plan
Enjoy the convenience of predictable heating bills every month! Instead of anticipating sky-high bills during the coldest months of the year, you can pay the same amount every month – just like your car or cell phone bill. Our Budget Plan is available to heating oil and propane customers for an 11-month period.

    • Pre-Buy Plan
Take care of your heating costs for the entire year with one simple payment. Purchase your heating oil or propane in advance and we will save your gallons for you and make deliveries over the year as needed. Pre-season fuel prices are typically 5-10¢ lower than peak season rates.

    • Price Cap Plan
Lock in your rate for the heating season! We’ll set a cap on your heating oil price. You’ll never pay above this price, no matter how the market changes. If the market price drops below your cap price, you pay the lower amount. It’s a win-win!

Q: Are pricing plans available for both heating oil and propane?

A: All three pricing plans are available to our heating oil customers. Propane customers can sign up for the Budget Plan or the Pre-Buy Plan. The Price Cap Plan is not available to propane customers.

Q: If I choose the Budget Plan, how is my monthly payment calculated?

A: First, we will estimate your annual fuel usage and projected fuel rates. Then we will divide that total into 11 monthly installments, so you receive one predictable heating bill each month.

Q: Is there a fee for the Price Cap Plan?

A: Yes. The Price Cap Plan requires a small insurance fee to guarantee your capped price. This small fee is necessary to lock in the maximum price per gallon you will pay for your heating oil.

Q: How can I sign up for a pricing plan?

A: Signing up for the pricing plan of your choice is simple! All you have to do is contact W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. and we’ll take care of the rest. Contact us today to sign up for a Budget Plan, Pre-Buy Plan, or Price Cap Plan. Once fall rolls around, you’ll be happy that you did!

Try out these suggestions to lower your Pennsylvania summer energy bills:

  1. Schedule Your A/C Tune-Up

Booking a tune-up for your central or ductless air conditioning system can help you save big on your summer utility bills. Just one yearly tune-up gives significant savings, energy-efficiency improvement, and repair circumvention.

  1. Adjust Your Meal Plan

Skip using the oven, as it heats up your home and uses valuable energy. Instead, opt for summer meals like cooking on the grill or cold dishes like salads and sandwiches.

  1. Wash Dishes and Clothes Wisely

Only run your dishwasher and washing machine with full loads. This will require less water to be used. Plus, washing your clothes in cold water is a great way to save on water heating bills.

  1. Consider an Upgrade

Technology is improving, and high-efficiency air conditioners have never been so efficient! New air conditioning systems use less energy to produce better cooling comfort.

  1. Get Outside

Being outdoors is fun and good for your health, but it will also help cut utility costs for electronics like televisions and computers.

  1. Unplug Phantom Power

If you want to save on “phantom power,” unplug electronics that are on standby, or plug them into a power bar. Turn the power bar on when you need it and off when you don’t!

  1. Shower in the Evening

Showering at night can cool you down and allow your hair to dry naturally without the aid of a hairdryer or other electric appliance. Give it a shot!

  1. Use a Programmable Thermostat

Did you know that adjusting your home’s temperature can save you up to 10% annually on energy? Simply program your thermostat warmer when you’re asleep or away. Aim for 8 hours a day in the “’warm” zone.

If you’re an oil or propane delivery customer in the Greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area, you may have heard mention of pricing plans. We’ve outlined the basics to give you a quick snapshot of these programs. Simply put, pricing plans can help add predictability to your fuel costs.

Oil and propane prices can change without warning, and these plans help to combat that volatility. Depending on the program you choose, you can either lock in a capped price or spread your heating fuel payments out over the course of the year. Both of these options keep your fuel oil or propane gas prices predictable and affordable, fitting in with your home comfort budget.

Your PA Payment Plan Options

Budget Plan

We estimate your annual heating oil or propane usage and divide today’s low price into 11 monthly installments. This allows you to have a low, predictable heating bill to work into your monthly budget. You can also sign up for automatic delivery to skip the hassle of tracking your fuel usage.

Pre-Buy Plan

Pay for all your oil or propane upfront to guarantee a low price. You’ll get the best deal around, which is typically about 5-10¢ lower than market rate for each gallon. Starting on August 15th of any given year, you can enjoy a guaranteed low price and fuel storage at W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. until you’re ready for a delivery.

Price Cap Plan

This plan, only available for heating oil customers, is the perfect option when you’re looking for a zero-risk way to get the ongoing lowest price. For a small insurance fee, you’ll sign up to get heating oil for a capped price per gallon. Even if prices rise, you’ll never pay more than your cap—but you will benefit from getting the lower rate if the oil market prices drop. This program starts on August 1st of each year, so be sure to contact us if you’d like to learn more or sign up.

Using air conditioning to combat the Pennsylvania summer heat is a no-brainer: but did you know that systems more than 10 years old will likely need a replacement or conversion within the next year? We’re here to explain why, and assist you in any way we can.

As technology advances, cleaner substances replace outdated ones. Recently, the EPA banned further sale and importation of R-22 A/C refrigerant due to its negative impact on the environment and, more specifically, the earth’s ozone layer. But there’s a silver lining to upgrading your old system: you’ll improve your energy efficiency and reduce repair costs, saving you money on your energy bills for years to come!

R-22 FAQs: Get to Know Your Air Conditioner

What does R-22 refrigerant do?

R-22 is the liquid agent that cools the coils of an air conditioner to chill the air in your Pennsylvania home. Air conditioning would be impossible without some type of refrigerant.

Does my air conditioner use R-22?

Most air conditioners manufactured prior to 2010 use R-22 refrigerant, but you can check on your system’s info panel. If you’re still not sure, please feel free to call W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. and we can send a qualified technician to check for you.

Some (but not all) units that use R-22 can be converted to use a different refrigerant. However, a complete system upgrade will provide greater benefits in the long run, due to their higher AFUE ratings and more efficient electricity usage.

What can I do with my R-22 air conditioner?

We recommend a system replacement, because it will provide more than your other option: attempting a conversion. Here are some of the perks to upgrading your system to a high-efficiency model:

  • Long-term savings on energy and service
  • Reduced negative environmental impact
  • More reliable operation and peace of mind
  • Whisper-quiet operation and ultimate cooling
  • Ductless and central A/C systems available

While the weather in Pennsylvania usually isn’t too brutal in the spring, by the time summer rolls around it heats up quite a bit. Use this transitional season between winter and summer to schedule your air conditioning tune-up so you’re prepared for whatever weather the summer of 2019 holds.

You’ll Get Caught in the Rush

If you postpone a tune-up appointment now and change your mind later, you compete with the summer rush. Booking your air conditioning maintenance before the weather heats up too much allows you your first choice of scheduling.

You’re at Risk of an A/C Breakdown

Not booking a spring tune-up puts your cooling systems at risk of larger problems. Tune-ups can catch minor issues, fixing them before they ever get to the point of needing a costly repair or complete system replacement.

You’ll Waste Money on Electricity

One of the biggest benefits of spring tune-ups is the efficiency boost: a common possibility for PA air conditioners. By improving your central or ductless air conditioner’s energy efficiency, you’ll find yourself cutting down your energy bill so you can save or spend the money elsewhere.

You Could Have an A/C Emergency

By getting your air conditioning tune-up out of the way, you’ll have plenty of time to account for any repairs that need to be made before the first heat wave. If you wait until the dead of summer, you might find yourself in a pinch to fix your air conditioning as soon as possible. Give yourself peace of mind and flexibility when it comes to your home comfort.

Your Family May Be Uncomfortable

It’s likely that spring and summer are the seasons your family is home the most. Make sure it’s a safe and comfortable place for your family to be; give everyone a place to cool down and chill out after a long day in the sun.

Oil Tank Tips

Having Your Oil Tank Removed?

Ensure your fill pipe and vent pipes are marked or removed. Pennsylvania homeowners have their oil tanks removed for a variety of reasons, including upgrades, replacements, and fuel transitions. If you’re considering removing your oil tank, don’t forget to have your fill pipe and vent pipe removed as well. Otherwise, a miscommunication could result in oil being delivered to your basement floor! Always mark or remove oil fill and vent pipes that are no longer needed.

Emergency Generators

Spring is here, and with it comes thunderstorms and unpredictable weather. Protect your family and home this season by having an emergency backup generator installed.

Spring is right around the corner, and with warm weather comes the time of year that your plumbing needs the most attention. During the winter, pipes and plumbing can easily freeze. Ice in your pipes can split the seams, resulting in leakage when the ice melts. Check out the suggestions below to get an outline of how you can take care of your PA home or business’s plumbing this season.
Propane Log Set

Check for leaks

Inspect the areas underneath sinks, behind toilets, and in basements for any signs of leakage. When compounded, small leaks can cause big problems. It’s best to get them taken care of right away by a professional plumber in your area. Small leaks are often simple and inexpensive to fix, preventing them from becoming more severe and costly.

Clear out your gutters

Gutters easily fill with leaves, debris, ice, and other blockages. It’s important to clean them or have them cleaned out in the spring to prevent water backup on your roof. Excess water on your roof can lead to leaks, water damage, and other issues that are easily preventable with a simple gutter cleaning.

Clean faucets and fixtures

Sink and shower faucets can collect sedimentary buildup of the chemicals that are in our water. Cleaning them means that the buildup won’t eat away at the metal, come off on your skin, or make dishwashing less effective. Scrub off the buildup and consider a replacement if the buildup is too stubborn.

Schedule annual maintenance

Just like furnaces, boilers, and air conditioners, appliances like water pumps and heaters need annual maintenance, too. You can increase the efficiency, use less oil or propane, and reduce the risk of a future breakdown. Schedule your appointment on our website today!

Fireplaces add a comfortable atmosphere and satisfying supplementary heat to countless homes in Pennsylvania without causing homeowners the hassle of a wood-burning fireplace. Thinking of having a propane log set installed? Contact W.C. Eshenaur & Sons, Inc. today to book your installation!
Propane Log Set

Q: What exactly is a propane log set?

A: A propane log set is a gas-burning fireplace with fake logs, which is designed to provide PA customers with supplementary heat. The fireplaces are easy to install, simple to use, affordable to run, and the perfect addition to your home. There’s nothing like coming inside during winter and snuggling up next to a crackling fire!

Q: Do log sets burn real wood?

A: No. Propane log sets simulate a real wood fireplace by running real flames behind synthetic logs, so you never have to deal with cutting or stacking real wood. Instead, just flip a switch and enjoy the same warmth and comfort you’d get from a traditional fireplace.

Q: How much do they cost to install and run?

A: Gas log sets from W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. are easy and affordable to install: they can even run on your current propane source. Operating costs will vary depending on the amount of hours you run your fireplace.

Q: What’s the average lifespan of a gas log system?

A: The durability of gas log fireplaces has increased dramatically over the years, so they last quite a while. Additionally, the upkeep of a gas log fireplace plays a major role in its lifespan. Having your gas logs inspected annually by a qualified HVAC technician prolongs the life of your system. To keep the logs looking as great as they work, pick up some soot remover spray at your local hardware store.

Q: Can I run my log set all year?

A: Yes! Propane log sets can be run effectively all year, and are perfect for supplementary heat during transitional seasons like spring and fall. However, if you’d like to save more on energy and fuel costs, turning your log set off for the summer is a good way to do so.

Q: Where can I get one?

A: W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. offers a variety of gas log sets, along with the propane needed to fuel them. You can contact us online to request more information, get a free quote, or schedule your installation today!

Whether your heat has already stopped working or you’re researching ahead of time, you’re in the right place. There are many reasons why our heaters can stop working, and while W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc.is available for you 24/7, you may be able to fix the heat yourself with this simple checklist. Here is a compilation of the most common reasons for no-heat situations.

The Checklist for Assessing No-Heat Situations:

  • Check Your Thermostat

For a thermostat to kick in, the batteries will need to be fresh, the HEAT (or AUTO) selection will need to be on, and the temperature should be set at least three degrees above the current room temperature. Also ensure the FAN switch is set to ON (or AUTO).

  • Verify That You Have Fuel

If you heat with heating oil or propane, check the gauge on top of your fuel tank to ensure you have enough left. It will read like the gas gauge in your car, and you should always refill by the time your tank reaches ¼ capacity. A lack of fuel will certainly prevent your heat from working.

  • Turn Furnace Switches On

Furnace switches look like light switches, but often have a red panel instead of a white one. Sometimes they are accidentally turned off; check both the switch at the top of your basement stairs and the one on the furnace itself. Check that they’re both turned to the ON position.

  • Try the Furnace Reset Button

On the burner motor on the outside of your furnace, there is a Reset button. Push the button and hold it for a few seconds, and see if the burner fires. If so, your heat should reengage. If not, call W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc.: DO NOT press more than once. Pressing the reset button more than once can cause the furnace to kick back.

  • Visit Your Breaker Box

Visit your breaker box (usually in the basement) and ensure that the switch controlling the furnace is in the ON position. Like the furnace switches, sometimes breaker switches get turned off accidentally and are a problem that is easy to remedy.

  • Check the Heat Vents in Your Home

Heat vents are how the hot air is distributed to different rooms in your home. If too many of these are closed, the furnace can overheat and shut down for safety reasons. Sometimes opening a few more of these vents is all you need for the furnace to turn back on.

No Luck? Please Reach Out to W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc.

If you’ve tried the above tips and still have no heat, please call W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. immediately! January is the coldest month of the year in Pennsylvania, and we want all of our customers to stay safe and warm. You can utilize our 24/7 emergency service and have a technician sent to your home, who will get your heat back up and running in no time.
