Heating oil and propane delivery in Hershey PA

What’s the Difference Between Propane and Heating Oil for Home Heating?

Those of us here in Dauphin County, PA are lucky enough to be able to choose from various heating sources, but understanding the differences and pros and cons can help you make the propane vs heating oil decision. Propane vs Heating Oil for Dauphin County, PA Home Heating more Both types of fuel are delivered by truck and stored in tanks. Propane tanks are usually outside the house, either above or below ground. Heating oil tanks are usually in the basement. So much for the similarities; let's get into the differences. Costs Cost can be considered on three levels: installation, actual use, and maintenance. Installation Propane systems are usually cheaper to put in because they're simpler and just have fewer components. And because you can typically put the tank almost anywhere on your property, you don't have to worry about an extensive installation process. More safety measures have to go into putting a heating oil tank in, since this is actually in your home, making the heating oil tank the pricier install. Use In 2024, propane was cheaper per gallon than heating oil nationwide, on average, but that does vary all the time by region and season. And even though heating oil may be pricier than propane, it also offers higher BTUs, which is a way of measuring the amount of energy a gallon of fuel can provide. Heating oil gives you approximately 137,381 BTUs per gallon, while propane gives just 91,452. It also matters how energy efficient your furnace is. Energy efficiency refers to how well the furnace can actually burn the fuel it has, and the average propane furnace is 98% efficient, while the best oil furnace is about 90% efficient. That means your propane furnace can get you about 89,623 BTUs out of a gallon of fuel, and your heating oil furnace will get you 123,643 per gallon. Maintenance The final cost to consider is maintenance. Your heating oil system is usually going to cost more to maintain because oil does not burn as cleanly as propane. That means you get more soot in the system, which reduces efficiency quickly and can even destroy the furnace if you don't keep up with it. Propane is a cleaner-burning fuel, so you can usually get away with just one inspection a year with your propane tank but can easily need two to three professional cleanings with an oil tank. Compatibility You can use both propane and oil for furnaces, water heaters, and boilers, as well as programmable thermostats. But one of the benefits of propane is that you can use it for things like a fireplace, an outdoor grill, a stove, or even a clothes dryer. You can't do that with heating oil. Whatever you choose, we can help, and our great pricing plans allow us to offer you a way to control your costs through the winter, no matter what might happen to spot prices on either fuel. Reach out to us today at W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. in Dauphin County, PA, where we serve dozens of towns all across Central PA.

Harrisburg Oil & Propane Delivery by Eshnaurs.

How Does Automatic Fuel Delivery Work, and Is It Worth It?

Imagine never having to check your fuel tank gauge or scramble to schedule a delivery during a brutal winter storm: with automatic fuel delivery in Harrisburg, PA, that's what you get! At Eshenaurs, we've been delivering reliable heating oil and propane for over 90 years, and our automatic delivery option is designed to make your life easier. more How Does Automatic Fuel Delivery Work, and Is It Worth It? What Is Automatic Fuel Delivery? Instead of monitoring your tank yourself and calling for refills when you need it, we can use data and technology to predict when your tank needs topping up and schedule deliveries, so you never have to think about it again. This service is particularly popular for heating oil and propane. For context, automatic delivery isn't a new fad. It's just the next evolution in scheduling using smart, predictive systems. How It Works The Setup When you sign up for automatic delivery, we get baseline information about your home, like tank size, number of people in the home, and your historical usage data. Then, we create a delivery schedule based on our decades of experience serving Central PA communities like Harrisburg. Monitoring and Prediction For every degree below a base temperature, your system works harder and consumes more fuel. Combined with your usage history, this helps forecast when your tank will hit a low threshold. At Eshenaurs, we offer Otodata tank monitors if you prefer, which allows you to know exactly what your levels are on your smartphone app. Delivery and Billing When the system predicts your tank is low, a delivery is automatically lined up. And when we can dispatch our trucks efficiently, bundling routes according to predictable need, we can minimize costs for all our customers. You're simply charged based on the amount delivered; unless you're part of our budgeting plans. These great plans let you spread out fuel payments throughout the year, so you have a consistent monthly payment instead of a big charge every time the tank needs to be filled. You can also choose our pre-buy option, so you're never taking a gamble on fuel prices going up. Benefits Switching to automatic delivery offers more than just convenience! Obviously, the biggest perk is eliminating the dread of an empty tank. But you can also forget about gauging your tank in freezing weather or remembering to call. We handle it all. While it's still a good idea to call us if there's a big change to your home (such as if you're going to be gone a while with the heat turned down or are adding people to the home for a significant amount of time), for the most part, it's "set-it-and-forget-it." Deliveries are also timed for optimal fill-ups, and that means you eliminate the need to pay any emergency fees. In peak seasons, our automatic customers also get first dibs on deliveries. If there's a supply crunch, you're covered. Beyond that, efficient deliveries mean fewer truck trips, and that means fewer emissions. If you're ready to take the hassle out of fuel delivery, reach out to us today at W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. in Harrisburg, PA. We proudly serve nearly all towns and cities in the central PA area.

Harrisburg Furnace Repair & Replacement.

What Are the Signs That Your Furnace Needs to Be Repaired or Replaced?

No one wants to be without heating in the cold Pennsylvania winters, so if you spot the signs that you might need a furnace repair, it's best not to delay. By calling in Harrisburg, PA professionals promptly, any repairs could potentially extend the lifespan of your furnace. Waiting too long to get any repairs carried out could mean you end up needing a full furnace replacement sooner than expected due to more extensive damage. more Top Six Signs That Indicate You Need a Furnace Repair or Replacement A faulty furnace can represent a safety risk, so it's essential to know the signs to look out for. Some of the most common include: Rising Energy Costs If you notice a change in your energy costs with no apparent cause, it could be a sign there's a problem with your furnace. A malfunctioning furnace might have to work much harder to produce the same output, burning more fuel in the process. It may be as simple as a clogged filter, but it could also mean that your furnace needs to be replaced. Unusual Noises Be vigilant for any unusual noises, as this could indicate that your furnace needs to be checked over. You might notice various types of noises, such as knocking, whistling, squeaking, humming, or rattling. The type of noise your furnace makes can help to pinpoint the problem more quickly, so describing the sound and when it occurs to the professional can be very helpful. Unpleasant Odor Any new odors coming from your furnace warrant urgent investigation. If you notice a burning odor, or you can smell gas, call in the professionals right away. It may be caused by a dirty furnace that needs a professional clean, or there could be dangerous overheating. A professional will be able to check what's going on and ensure your household is safe. Rapid Cycling Your furnace should work steadily, reading information from the thermostat to maintain a constant temperature. If you notice the furnace is turning on and off frequently, there may be a problem. This rapid cycling could be due to a malfunctioning thermostat, a failing heat exchanger, or you may need a complete replacement. Visible Signs of Wear It's good practice to inspect your furnace regularly for signs of wear and tear, even if you haven't noticed a problem with the performance. Rust, cracks, or general corrosion can all indicate the furnace might not be performing at its best. More importantly, cracks can present a carbon monoxide risk, so it's vital to get any wear and tear properly checked out by a professional without delay. Aging Furnace No furnace can last indefinitely, so if yours is 15–20 years old, it might be time to consider a replacement. Modern furnaces are more energy-efficient so you could benefit from lower energy costs as well as reliable heating throughout your home. Don't Wait to Arrange a Furnace Replacement in Harrisburg, PA If you recognize any of these signs, your furnace needs to be checked professionally. Some problems may initially seem severe but can easily be repaired. However, the longer a problem continues without being repaired, the more likely severe damage can be caused. With our longstanding history of serving the community in and around Central Pennsylvania, we are proud to offer honest, high-quality professional services. Professional HVAC Maintenance in Harrisburg PA

How Often Should You Schedule Professional HVAC Maintenance?

When was the last time you had a professional examine and maintain your home's HVAC system? While it might not seem that important, regular HVAC maintenance is a key element to system upkeep, performance, and efficiency. At W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc., we offer comprehensive HVAC services for Harrisburg, PA, residents, including professional system maintenance. How Often Should You Schedule HVAC Maintenance? more The main goal of having professional HVAC system maintenance is preventative. A comprehensive inspection can identify potential issues before they become an expensive repair or even a total system breakdown. Every system has variables that can impact how frequently preventive maintenance is necessary. We usually recommend HVAC service twice per year, right before peak usage: once in the spring and again in the fall. However, homeowners with pets, high dust levels, poor air quality, or older systems may benefit from more frequent service appointments. Tailored HVAC System Maintenance Plans for Homeowners in Harrisburg, PA We offer personalized maintenance plans for our customers no matter what kind of HVAC system is in their home. Our professionals will examine every aspect of your home's HVAC system, performing services such as: Cleaning ducts and coils Inspecting for damage or leaks Replacing filters Testing system function and efficiency Calibrating system components Ensuring safe performance Benefits of Regular HVAC System Maintenance Even if your home's HVAC system seems to run just fine, scheduling regular service and maintenance is still important. Think of it as a short-term investment that provides long-term benefits, a few of which we'll discuss below. Increases System Performance and Prevents Breakdowns Regular HVAC inspections, maintenance, and servicing keep your system running efficiently and at peak performance. Systems with dirty filters, clogged ducts, or poorly functioning components have to work much harder to heat or cool your home. This increase in stress can result in mechanical failure or even a complete breakdown. Periodical tune-ups prevent these issues and keep your home comfortable all year round. Ultimately, this extends the lifespan of your HVAC system over the long run. Improves Energy Efficiency and Air Quality Cleaning air ducts and other mechanical components is essential to maintaining HVAC systems. According to a January 2025 study, regular cleaning of HVAC fans and blowers lowered energy consumption between 41% and 60%. It also reduced fluctuations in pressure, resulting in higher system efficiency and increased airflow. Cleaner air ducts also improve indoor air quality, removing the presence of dust, dirt, pet dander, spores, and other airborne contaminants. Reduces Energy Costs With your HVAC system functioning properly and sustaining top-notch performance, the increase in efficiency offers one of the best benefits of all: lower energy costs. Inflation has resulted in rising costs all across the board, and that includes utilities. Even a small reduction in energy costs each month can add up to serious annual savings. Keeping your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter is a piece of cake when you schedule regular HVAC system maintenance. Our team of friendly, reliable professionals offers tailored service plans for our customers, ensuring we meet their every need. Call W.C. Steps for Winter Property Preparation in Central PA Ensure your propane or heating oil tank is full. The most important thing you can do to protect your Central PA property is check your heating oil or propane tank gauge to ensure you have plenty of home heating fuel to get you through the storm. If your oil tank is nearing ¼ capacity or your propane tank is reaching 1/3, it is time request a delivery from your favorite local fuel providers at W.C. Eshenaur & Son, Inc.. Schedule a furnace or boiler tune-up. If you haven't had your furnace or boiler serviced lately, it's a good idea to have it looked at by an HVAC service provider. They can catch any minor issues before they turn into a big deal and sometimes even boost your system's efficiency to help you get the most out of your heating investment. Make sure the path to your fuel tank fill pipe and driveway are clear of ice and snow. It also is beneficial to trim back any low-hanging branches to help us deliver any last-minute oil orders safely and efficiently. Plus, throwing down some ice melt on your driveway will keep you and our drivers safe. Seal windows and doors to keep heat inside. Holding a candle to your windows and doors can uncover any sneaky drafts, as the candle will flicker, and smoke will be affected by the subtle airstream. If you find draftiness, seal any air leaks with caulk or weather stripping. This will keep your precious heat inside where it belongs. Winterize your plumbing. Eshenaur & Son, Inc. loves to celebrate everything propane is capable of! Propane significantly lowers emissions According to the Propane Education and Research Council, propane produces 52% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than electricity generation, 99% fewer particulate matter (PM) emissions than diesel-powered engines, and 50% fewer greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) from residential propane heat compared to electricity. These harmful emissions that fossil fuels release into the atmosphere are linked to environmental concerns such as extreme weather conditions and a rise in life-threatening diseases in cardiovascular and respiratory health .
